Sensory Machine

In March 2016, Professor Hsueh Cheng-Luen’s team and ArchiBio Art Company entered a competition for public art at Weiwuying Metropolitan Park. We won the competition. We started the design in September 2016 and spent six months developing it. By the end of March 2017, we were building it on-site. The exhibition lasted for about one month, from April 15 to May 21, 2017. Besides the final show, we also held workshops in late 2016 to connect with the local community.

The site is in Kaohsiung. As far back as the late Qing Dynasty, Weiwuying was an important military area. During the Japanese era, they built the "Fengshan Warehouse" here. Later, the government turned it into a Military Training Center. Many young men did their military service here. When we explored the site, we met many male residents who had trained here in the past. In 1979, the military left. Eventually, thanks to the hard work of a local group, it officially became Weiwuying Metropolitan Park.

In the early days, only a few residents and military families lived nearby. The rest was just open fields and grass. This place is special because it deeply mixes military history, village culture, and daily life.

We designed five works for this project:

A. I heard your voice B. Sensorial map C. The hills of funnel D. Olfactory forest E. Sensory machine
