Large amounts of sandbell have accumulated in the Penghu sea area over a long period of time. To handle these materials in an effective and sustainable way, we aim to establish a local material ecosystem that transforms sandbell into building materials with strong regional character. These materials include bricks, mortar, slate panels, stone slices, and aggregates for various architectural uses.
Based on this approach, we further constructed a “Circular House.” Its architectural form and construction methods are fully based on traditional Penghu vernacular houses, using load-bearing walls as the main structural system. This design responds to the local climate and traditional building wisdom. At the same time, by combining new materials with traditional construction techniques, we hope to support the transformation and continuation of the local craft and construction system.
