Ting-jia Zhang
Architect, artist and sound designer.
Ting-jia Zhang is an architect, artist, and sound designer dedicated to integrating cross-disciplinary design, allowing observers to experience the beauty woven from architecture, space, and the five senses. He served as the CEO of the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Design Center and currently holds positions as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture at NCKU and an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Architecture at the National University of Kaohsiung. His representative works, produced in collaboration with the Taipei Hakka Cultural Theme Park, the Taipei Culture Foundation, and Treasure Hill Artist Village, include "House of Blue Dye," "Reel Memories," and "Shui Yuan Market."
His musical compositions often feature non-pitch-anchored, experimental, collage, and displacement techniques. His representative EP, "TYPO-STRUCTURE," involved sampling sounds of typing, cash registers, and carving from three renowned Taiwanese typography workshops—Ri Xing Type Foundry, Chen Sculpture Office, and JSFonts—to create experimental soundscapes exhibited alongside spatial installations. For architect Ting-jia Zhang, space is not merely a manipulation of matter, but a collective product of materials, experiences, events, memories, and culture.
