Ting-jia Zhang · Project Rebirth

Project Rebirth Album 1
Artist: Ting-jia Zhang

The sound works of artist Ting-jia Zhang skillfully transform everyday memories into ambient and experimental music through electronic instruments. Sometimes featuring intense drum beats, sometimes unfolding as slow and tranquil soundscapes, Zhang's compositions narrate the stories of places. The Project Rebirth album captures the artist’s memories and experiences on-site, translating them into tangible soundscapes that offer listeners an alternative narrative of the space. Both Treasure Hill Artist Village and Taipei Hakka Cultural Park sit along the Xindian River, where vehicles rush by on the expressway, rain pours over the city, and people stroll through parks and urban spaces—moments now encapsulated within the music of the Project Rebirth album.

In 2025, artist Ting-jia Zhang introduces his latest series, "Rebirth Project," integrating spatial installations, material reuse, and experimental music. This project carefully considers everyday materials, implementing a structured panel plan to explore possibilities for regeneration. All wooden components in the project are designed in multiples of five, constructed under limited conditions with the goal of ensuring that, upon dismantling, the materials return to storage. They are categorized by cross-section dimensions, length, and type, allowing for continued reuse until the materials reach the end of their life cycle.

The exhibition at Treasure Hill Artist Village and Taipei City Hakka Cultural Park features two works: "Starlight Chair" and "Between Dining Tables." Dimly lit bulbs were intentionally used to reflect the surrounding landscape, inviting the audience to experience the urban and natural interplay at dusk. A QR code will be available, encouraging visitors to wear headphones and listen to site-specific music created by the artist, immersing themselves in the tension and tranquility between light and darkness. After the exhibition, all materials will be matched with new users or projects, allowing them to be reborn once again in different locations.

Artist Po-hsiang Chiu, serving as the R&D director at C-Cube International Co., Ltd., has long been dedicated to developing circular building materials. Many of these materials are sourced from everyday waste, such as red bricks, recycled crushed stones and glass sand, which are transformed into terrazzo tiles to showcase the beauty and sustainability of recycled materials. Visual artist Wan-wen Liao extends her exploration of stone and mineral textures through four visual artworks. The team has also partnered with a recycled canvas bag manufacturer to repurpose the exhibition's visual elements, ensuring that the physical artworks find new possibilities beyond the exhibition period.
